4140 steel is a chromium, molybdenum, and manganese-containing low-alloy steel that adds to its superior strength and hardness. It usually contains 0.38–0.43% carbon, 0.75–1.00% manganese, 0.80–1.10% chromium, and 0.15–0.25% molybdenum. It possesses a tensile strength ranging from 655–1080 MPa and yield strength ranging from 415–655 MPa, based on heat treatment. The steel possesses good fatigue life, impact toughness, and high wear resistance, making it ideal for severe mechanical applications.
