Iron makes up the majority of stainless steel 316 circles, with trace amounts of manganese, silicon, and carbon, as well as roughly 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum. This composition improves resistance to pitting and corrosion, particularly in environments with a lot of chloride. Mechanically, SS 316 has a yield strength of 205 MPa, a tensile strength of about 515 MPa, and good elongation (at least 40%). At cryogenic temperatures, it also retains good toughness.
