440C Stainless Steel is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel that has about 16–18% chromium, 0.95–1.20% carbon, and trace amounts of manganese, silicon, and molybdenum. It has the highest wear resistance and hardness among stainless steels when heat treated. It has tensile strength between 760 and 1965 MPa, with good compressive strength and good corrosion resistance in mild environments. Though less corrosion-resistant than austenitic grades, 440C excels in high-strength and wear-intensive applications, making it ideal for load-bearing structures, cutting tools, and components requiring precision and durability.

Stainless Steel 440C Channels find extensive applications in those applications where high strength, hardness, and wear resistance are imperative. Some such applications include machine parts, knife and blade production, valve components, races in bearings, and molds. 440C Channels in structural applications are employed in those environments where mechanical strength and retention of edges become necessary, such as heavy machinery, defense hardware, and industrial equipment. They are also appropriate for applications in automotive, aerospace, and marine applications, where components undergo stress and need durable performance. Although not designed for extremely corrosive conditions, 440C is good for mild corrosive environments with excellent dimensional stability.
