Nitronic alloys are nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless steels containing chiefly iron, 20–23% chromium, 4–6% manganese, 3–6% nickel, and traces of molybdenum and nitrogen. These compositions have outstanding strength, corrosion resistance, and resistance to oxidation even at high temperatures. Mechanical properties are tensile strength of 690–960 MPa, yield strength of up to 620 MPa, and elongation of approximately 35%. As opposed to traditional stainless steels, Nitronic is resistant to galling and wear yet retains high strength, which makes it perfect for situations of high stress. It is also very tough at both high and sub-zero temperatures.
