Carbon Steel AISI 1045 is a medium carbon steel with about 0.43–0.50% carbon, 0.60–0.90% manganese, and minute quantities of sulfur and phosphorus. It has a fair combination of strength, toughness, and wear resistance. Typical tensile strength is between 570 and 700 MPa, and yield strength is about 330 MPa, with good impact toughness and fair ductility. AISI 1045 is readily heat-treated to increase mechanical properties and is very amenable to machining and forging. These properties render 1045 angles suitable for structural applications where there is a need for strength and durability.
