C45 High Carbon Steel normally has 0.42–0.50% carbon and 0.50–0.80% manganese, besides trace levels of silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus. This steel grade has a tensile strength of 570–700 MPa and yield strength of 330–450 MPa. It has good machinability and fairly good weldability, thus making it suitable for most applications. In the annealed state, it has a Brinell hardness of 170–210 HB, which is increaseable by heat treatment. Its composition and mechanical properties render C45 appropriate for components requiring higher surface hardness and core toughness.
