C50 High Carbon Steel Sheets and Plates are comprised mostly of carbon (about 0.47–0.55%) and manganese (0.60–0.90%), with traces of silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus. The high carbon content raises hardness and tensile strength. The usual mechanical properties are a tensile strength of 540–700 MPa and a yield strength of around 280–350 MPa. It has good machinability and moderate weldability and is appropriate for quenching and tempering. The steel’s resistance to maintaining its shape when stressed makes it particularly useful for structural and bearing applications.
