Aluminium 2017 Plates and Sheets consist mainly of aluminium (balance), with copper (3.5–4.5%) being the most significant alloying constituent, and traces of manganese (0.4–1%) and magnesium (0.2–0.8%). It has high strength and good machinability. Typical tensile strength is 430–480 MPa and yield strength is 275–370 MPa, with moderate corrosion resistance and fatigue characteristics. It is sensitive to heat treatment, which enhances hardness and mechanical strength. Aluminium 2017 is suited for applications where formability and stress performance are most important.
