ASTM A283 Grade C is a low to intermediate tensile strength carbon steel. It has a chemical composition of around 0.24% carbon, 0.40–0.90% manganese, up to 0.04% phosphorus, and up to 0.05% sulfur. The steel has a minimum yield strength of 205 MPa and tensile strength of 380–515 MPa with good elongation and ductility of around 20%. It has very high formability, weldability, and toughness. These mechanical properties render it appropriate for applications demanding moderate strength and durability without losing ease of fabrication or structural integrity.
