Stainless Steel 309H consists of about 23% chromium and 13% nickel along with added carbon levels (0.04–0.10%) to provide increased high-temperature strength. It provides good oxidation resistance up to 1093°C (2000°F) and resistance to corrosion. The tensile strength of the alloy is about 550 MPa, yield strength is 205 MPa, and elongation is about 40%. The austenitic structure of this alloy offers good toughness and formability even at cryogenic temperatures. Increased carbon content enhances creep strength, which makes it well suited for high-temperature service.
