Alloy Steel Gr 5 contains mostly chromium (4–6%), molybdenum (0.4–0.6%), vanadium (0.25–0.35%), and carbon (0.28–0.33%), in combination with iron and trace elements. It has great hardness, tensile strength, and heat resistance due to this composition. It has a tensile strength of approximately 895 MPa and a yield strength of about 725 MPa, with satisfactory toughness and fatigue strength. These plates and sheets have high machinability and tend to be heat-treated in order to improve mechanical properties, leading to applications in demanding engineering and high-temperature applications.
