C55 High Carbon Steel has about 0.52–0.60% carbon, 0.60–0.90% manganese, and very small amounts of silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur. The material is high in surface hardness and strength when heat-treated. The steel generally has a tensile strength of 700–850 MPa and a yield strength of about 400 MPa, with low elongation of 10–14%. The steel is good for wear resistance and fair for machinability, but has low weldability due to its high carbon content. It is appropriate for applications where hardness, toughness, and resistance against deformation under stress are needed.
