NACE MR 0103/0175 HIC Boiler Plates and Sheets are made mainly of carbon steel with the optimal content of carbon (≤0.20%), manganese (1.00–1.50%), silicon (≤0.50%), sulfur (≤0.005%), and phosphorus (≤0.020%) to provide improved HIC resistance. Mechanical properties are tensile strength of 485–620 MPa, yield strength ≥275 MPa, and elongation ≥21%. The plates are subjected to rigorous hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) testing to guarantee excellent performance in sour environments. Adequate toughness and impact strength at low temperatures render them appropriate for high-pressure and high-temperature uses.

Tempering : Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F.
Applications : Used for weld fabrication of pressure vessels that require improved notch toughness for lower than ambient temperature service.
