In addition to low carbon (maximum 0.15%) and trace amounts of silicon and nitrogen, stainless steel 201 is composed of 16–18% chromium, 3.5–5.5% nickel, and 5.5–7.5% manganese. This alloy has a yield strength of about 275 MPa and a high tensile strength, usually between 520 and 785 MPa. Its work-hardening qualities and ductility are good. SS 201 works well in low to moderately corrosive environments, despite being marginally less corrosion-resistant than 304. It is appropriate for a range of structural and fabrication applications because it also maintains good toughness at lower temperatures and offers excellent formability.
