Chromium (20–22%), Nickel (10–12%), Silicon (~1.4–2%), and rare earth metals for improved oxidation resistance are all present in stainless steel 253MA, a high-temperature austenitic alloy. Nitrogen is also added for greater creep strength. The alloy has an elongation of about 40%, a yield strength of 310 MPa, and a minimum tensile strength of about 600 MPa. Because of its exceptional performance at temperatures as high as 1150°C and its special combination of high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and structural stability, SS 253MA is perfect for high-temperature settings and extended thermal exposure.
