The composition of stainless steel 304 plates and sheets is basically chromium (18–20%), nickel (8–10.5%), and iron, with small percentages of carbon (≤0.08%), manganese (≤2%), silicon (≤1%), and phosphorus and sulfur in small amounts. Mechanical characteristics are tensile strength of 515–750 MPa, yield strength of ≥205 MPa, and elongation ≥40%. They demonstrate high corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability. The strength at cryogenic temperatures is retained, and the Brinell hardness is around 201 HB. Stainless steel 304 is very versatile for different environments and applications due to these properties.
