Stainless Steel 309S is an austenitic chromium-nickel steel alloy with around 22–24% chromium and 12–15% nickel and very low carbon levels (≤0.08%) for enhanced weldability. It also contains trace amounts of elements such as manganese, silicon, and iron. The alloy provides outstanding oxidation resistance to 980°C and satisfactory strength at high temperatures. It has a general tensile strength of 515 MPa, yield strength of 205 MPa, and elongation of about 40%. The 309S grade offers improved corrosion resistance with good ductility and is thus preferred for forming, welding, and high-temperature uses.
