Stainless Steel 316 is a wrought austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel alloy with 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum improves corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides and industrial solvents. It possesses about 515 MPa tensile strength, yield strength of 205 MPa, and very good elongation of approximately 40%. Its Brinell hardness is around 217 max. Stainless Steel 316 has superior weldability, high-temperature strength, and toughness, suitable for extreme conditions where there is a need for both strength and corrosion resistance.
