Stainless Steel 316L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel with 16–18% Chromium, 10–14% Nickel, 2–3% Molybdenum, and up to 0.03% Carbon. This mix of elements is responsible for its higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Mechanical properties consist of a tensile strength of 485 MPa, yield strength of 170 MPa, elongation of 40%, and good toughness even at cryogenic temperatures. Having a Brinell hardness of around 217 HBW, 316L has superior weldability, formability, and resistance to aggressive environments of a broad range.
