Stainless Steel 317 is an austenitic stainless steel alloy containing primarily iron, 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum. This particular composition provides increased resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chemical attack. It possesses a tensile strength of around 515 MPa, yield strength of about 205 MPa, and elongation of approximately 40%, showing good formability and endurance. The Rockwell hardness is usually B80, and thus it can be used in high-stress applications.
