At least five times the carbon content of stainless steel 321—consisting of 17–19% chromium, 9–12% nickel, and titanium—stabilizes the alloy against the precipitation of chromium carbide. Additionally, it has trace amounts of carbon, silicon, and manganese (maximum 0.08%). SS 321 has a yield strength of about 205 MPa and a tensile strength of roughly 515–750 MPa. The alloy is perfect for high-temperature structural applications and welded components because it maintains exceptional toughness and strength at high temperatures, resists oxidation up to 870°C, and offers good creep resistance.
