Stainless Steel 420 is a martensitic stainless steel with high carbon content, which gives it good hardness and moderate corrosion resistance. Its usual composition consists of 12–14% chromium and 0.15–0.40% carbon with small amounts of manganese, silicon, and nickel. On heat treatment, SS 420 develops high mechanical strength and up to 50 HRC Rockwell hardness. It provides tensile strength of approximately 700–800 MPa and satisfactory wear resistance. SS 420 Angles feature mechanical toughness coupled with machinability, and these angles are apt for applications involving load-carrying and high-stress where durability and mild corrosion resistance are critical.
