Stainless Steel 422 is a hardenable martensitic material with superior mechanical properties and thermal strength. Its chemical composition may comprise Chromium (12-14%), Manganese (1%), Silicon (1%), Carbon (0.15-0.25%), Molybdenum (0.5-1%), and Iron as the remainder. It provides a tensile strength of 760 MPa to 1310 MPa and yield strength of 450 MPa to 1170 MPa with excellent hardness and thermal fatigue resistance. The alloy also exhibits outstanding oxidation resistance up to 1200°F (650°C) and is suitable for high-stress applications in high-temperature conditions.
