Stainless Steel 440C is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel with a typical composition that includes: Carbon 1.0%, Chromium 16-18%, Manganese 1.0%, Silicon 1.0%, and Molybdenum up to 0.75%. This alloy is known for its high strength, impressive hardness (up to 60 HRC), and good corrosion resistance when properly heat-treated. Its mechanical properties feature a tensile strength of around 760 MPa, yield strength of 450 MPa, and an elongation of about 14%. Thanks to its high carbon content, 440C can be hardened to the highest levels among stainless steels, making it perfect for applications that demand superior wear resistance.
