About 11–12.5% chromium, 7.5–9.5% nickel, and trace amounts of molybdenum (0.5%), titanium, copper, and carbon (maximum 0.05%) make up the majority of stainless steel 455. Precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel gives it exceptional strength. After ageing, SS 455 shows yield strength of about 1170 MPa and tensile strength of up to 1380 MPa.
